Why is it important to learn Bathroom vocabulary with articles?
The topic “Bathroom” (Das Badezimmer) contains some of the most common daily vocabulary in German. You use these words every morning, but for English speakers, this topic can be tricky because German assigns grammatical gender to inanimate objects.
In English, a mirror, a shower, and a towel are all just “it”. In German, however, they are treated as people: a mirror is a “he” (der Spiegel), a shower is a “she” (die Dusche), and a towel is an “it” (das Handtuch). Since there is rarely a logical reason for this, you have to memorize the article along with the word from the very beginning.
How does the trainer help you remember?
Simply reading lists of words can be boring and difficult to remember. Our Der Die Das trainer turns learning into a game using visual color-coding. You connect the object with the color of its article:
- Der (Masculine) — blue.
- Die (Feminine) — pink.
- Das (Neuter) — yellow.
By playing with the “Bathroom” cards, your brain will automatically link “Föhn” (Hair dryer) with the color Blue and “Badewanne” (Bathtub) with the color Red. This is one of the most effective ways to overcome the language barrier.
